Reflections on Body, Mind & Spirit: Health Responsibility, Spending time Wisely, Gifts We've Been Given

My June Reflection

Time is precious.  It is the one resource that we can’t get any more of.  Which got me thinking how am I spending this special gift and with whom?  I’m responsible for how I use this limited resource.  Responsibility, time and gifts - that’s the focus of this month’s Reflection.

Body - Sleep Fundamentals

Often it's not that we aren’t trying to improve, we just haven’t found out what works best for us at this moment in time.  I’ve been fine tuning my sleep and recovery methods to help improve my Sleep and Readiness score. I went back to my tool box and went through some basics: reduce screen time before bed; cool and dark bedroom; don’t eat close to bedtime; and breathwork.

The result?  SOME improvement.  Ok, still not what I want it to be. In fact, my Sleep and Readiness scores have been the worst they have ever been.  So am I frustrated?  YES.  Have I exhausted all of my options?  NO.  I have to further reflect upon how I'm using my time and what I'm doing or not doing.  Perhaps how I was achieving great sleep in the past isn't working at this time.  I need to adjust my strategy.  More to come!

Challenge for you:

What is a fundamental action you can take to improve your sleep, nutrition, mindset?  Do you find what has worked for you in the past isn't working today?  What changes do you need to make?

MIND - Responsibility is Power

There's much happening in our world right now.  It's heavy.  There is so much turmoil.  When things are seemingly out of balance it's sometimes wise to go back to basics.  Which made me think of that when I read this snippet from author Mark Manson:

When you decide someone else is responsible for your life—be it a person, a job, a government—you give them power over you.

When you decide you are responsible for your life, you empower yourself.

Where have you neglected to take responsibility in your life? What have the consequences of that lack of responsibility been?

Challenge for you:

Let’s take a further look at Mark’s question about responsibility.  Where can we begin to apply responsibility to our own lives?  Fitness?  Joy?  Friendships?  How do we respond to the world around us? Spend some time today and reflect upon this question.

Spirit - Responding to the Gifts You’ve Been Given

I’ve been reflecting upon a question I read in our church bulletin:

We are all accountable for all of the gifts God has given us - our time, our talent, and our treasure: everything we have and everything we are.  Each of us is accountable not only for our own life but for the lives of others as well.  One day God will ask each of us what did we do with the gifts we were given.  How will you respond?

This reflection touches a little bit of everything: responsibility; time; giving.  It has changed the way I view my actions and intentions.  It doesn't let you shirk your responsibilities nor does it let you escape the importance of feeling gratitude and paying it forward.  This is a tall order.  One that each of us must answer to and will be called upon.  Are we ready?

Challenge for you:

Each day I begin with this reflection in mind and each night when I journal, I answer this question the best that I can.  How about you?

Words I'm pondering...

"Every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving." ~ Albert Einstein

To your reflection and health,
