Thoughtful Thursday…Celebrate Independence Day in Service to a Veteran

Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.

Our nation’s independence day will soon be upon us. Independence day is the day we celebrate the events that occurred on July 4th, 1776; the thirteen colonies claiming independence from England. That is what led to the formation of the United States of America. It is an historical and monumental event that we can be grateful for. That got me thinking about how we celebrate that day. Independence day celebration is a time for family, friends, communities to peacefully come together. As we all know, fireworks are fun, colorful, and very, very loud. In my neighborhood the July nights are filled with deafening noise similar to what could be heard in war zones. It’s somewhat ironic that our celebration of freedom is to re-create war-filled sounds. I often think of veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and wonder what they are going through, willing the noise to stop and their demons to subside. How can we help these suffering veterans that are committing suicide at a rate of 22 per day? To help bring awareness to that very problem, former commander of the Navy SEALS, Mark Divine, and his team have challenged anyone willing to participate to complete 22 million burpees to raise $250,000. He personally has committed to doing 100,000 burpees. The proceeds go directly to the Courage Foundation to support veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress. Consider how to give thanks and pay tribute to those who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom, liberties, and independence. This 4th of July consider firing just one less fire work and perhaps consider doing a burpee(s) as a way of paying tribute to those who have served our great nation. The week of July 4th, in recognition of those suffering from post-traumatic stress and offering it up as a small gesture for those who are unable to do so, I will be doing 22 burpees each day and making a donation to the Courage Foundation. The fire works display I will be leaving to the professionals and will turn my thoughts towards the courage and bravery our ancestors had in coming to this land and standing for their beliefs. May you have a healthy, happy, and peaceful independence day. Enjoy your journey, Lisa Schaffer GreenNote Fitness You wouldn’t happen to know just one person that would benefit from this information?
