Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.
This is the fourth and final week of core strength exercises. I am hopeful that this has been helpful to you and has increased your appreciation for the importance of having a strong core. If you missed the previous newsletters or want to review, you can get them here:
Core strength week 1 - core muscles explained & cable vertical press
Core strength week 2 - core muscles, good posture & single arm plank and bird dogs on elbows
Core strength week 3 - weak core muscles contribute to back pain and poor posture & tall kneeling-to-standing dumbbell hold
This week’s core exercise - Controlled Incline Push-up with 3 Second Lowering to Bench
Set up:
Use an elevated surface like a weight bench, placing your hands shoulder-width apart so you are in a push-up position
Tense your muscles and move shoulders back into a stable and controlled position while tensing the core and glutes
Once in stable position, begin push-ups with a three-second lowering on every repetition. Keep constant tension - no pausing at the top or bottom
Do as many repetitions as you can while keeping good form
I used this exercise at the end of my training for a good finish that hits the upper body and core. For an added bonus, from the push-up position, perform a slow, controlled Mountain Climber (bring right knee to left elbow, lower, repeat other side) for as many repetitions as possible while maintaining good form. A strong core is vitally important for sports, light activity, and daily living. It helps with good posture and keeping back pain at bay. Incorporate specific core exercises into your daily training. You will feel and look better!
