2018 One-word Theme I’m Working On ~
Gretchen Rubin, NYT best selling author of The Happiness Project and, along with her sister, Elizabeth, are podcasts hosts of “Happier”. They have challenged people to “Know yourself better” by creating a one-word or one-phrase theme for the year. “This exercise helps you discern your most import aims for your self." Gretchen’s word is ‘delegation’ and Elizabeth’s theme is ‘self-control’. Mine is 'quantification and experimentation’. What I’m Reading ~ James Clear has written an in-depth and insightful article, How to get motivated when you don’t feel like it Here is an excerpt: Step 1: A good pre-game routine starts by being so easy that you can’t say no to it. You shouldn’t need motivation to start your pre-game routine.
Step 2: Your routine should get you moving towards the end goal. Most of the time your routine should include physical movement. It’s hard to think yourself into getting motivated. Step 3: You need to follow the same pattern every single time. The patterns that you repeat on a daily basis will eventually form the identity that you believe in and the actions that you take. You can transform your identity and become the type of person who doesn’t need motivation to perform well…This is the difference between approaching life as a professional or an amateur. ... if you build small routines and patterns that help you overcome the daily battles, then you’ll continue the slow march towards greatness even when it gets tough. Video I Enjoyed ~ Life is NOT a Journey - by Alan Watts Quote I’m Pondering ~ Live for something that’s bigger than you are. ~ Chris Anderson Bonus Tip ~ Start every morning with a small physical task that you can complete. Do three push ups each morning. Just three. This small investment will pay off big dividends for your mindset and motivation.
