If you are not familiar with “floating”, this will be a good introductory article that explains the history of it and its modern-day version. It goes into a little of the science from the pioneering researcher that suggests it’s helpful for insomnia, stress symptoms, dysfunction of the skeleto-muscular system, and chronic headaches.
My floating experience
I opted for the 90 minute session in the tank, which is big enough to stand in. A smaller option is available, “which is a bit like climbing into a pitch-black clam full of seawater”. At one point I fell asleep, only to wake myself by inadvertently flinching and moving the water…and quickly fell back asleep. The feeling of relaxation is extremely strong which you hear people say that as part of their experience but that doesn’t do it justice. I felt relaxed through to my bones. When I was awake I was thinking of all the Epsom salt (magnesium) solution I was floating in and how magnesium is known to help balance calcium levels in the body, reduce stress, balance hormones, normalize blood pressure, and reduce risk of certain diseases…Ok, I may have thought of that later; I was too relaxed.

If you are thinking of trying floating, you won’t be disappointed. I received my float tank session as a gift from my husband. This would make a great gift for the holidays or just because.
