Thoughtful Thursday…Two things I consume...daily
Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.
Mornings are my favorite time of day. By it’s nature there is a unique stillness before the hustle-and-bustle, before getting from point a to point b and before the “to-do’s” grab our attention. It is the time where I can set the day with my morning ritual of meditation, box-breathing, gratitude, and my favorite yoga poses.
At the end of my morning ritual, I look forward to a piping hot mug of coffee and a delicious bar. It’s not just any type of coffee and not just any old brick-style energy bar. You see, if I’m going to consume something daily, well, it better taste good and good for me.
Sluurrrpppp….pardon me, I’m just enjoying my freshly brewed cup of coffee and nibbling on a tasty energy bar. Ah, I love mornings. I’m about to share with you my two go-to products. First though, let’s take a quick look at a study reported by the New York Times that coffee drinkers may live longer. Nice! A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that drinking coffee is associated with a longer lifespan and a lower risk of death from all causes but especially from cardiovascular disease and cancer - two of the top five causes of death.
Now you may be wondering, where are the studies that show consuming energy bars help you to live longer. As of this writing, I’m not familiar with any but I can tell you that the bar I consume is not only tasty but is of very high quality, which is unlike many of the bars that are readily available at convenience stores, grocery stores, and the like.
I drink this coffee and eat these energy bars because they literally are some the cleanest, healthiest products you can buy. Now, do I drink coffee or eat energy bars that aren’t Kion products? Yes, but by and large I use these products and believe that companies can be profitable by doing the right things for people and the planet.
To be fully transparent, I have an affiliation with Kion. You see, I have invested a chunk of time and money into learning about body, mind, and spirit. For the past five months I have immersed myself in how to optimally care for these aspects of what it means to be a (complete) human. I’m close to completing this course and certification as a Kion Coach. As part of that process, I’ve been able to have an affiliate link to Kion products. This means if you click on the product links I get a small commission (and I mean small…pennies). Regardless, I want to be very transparent about this. With that said, I would never recommend or promote anything I didn’t 100% believe in. That is a principle that I live by and would never intentionally break your trust.
Without further ado let’s look at these babies!
I was very happy that upon trying this quality coffee free of pesticides, mold, and yeast, that my husband loved it. I didn’t want to get into the fact that this coffee has undergone extensive testing and it’s double the anti-oxidant content compared to other coffees tested. They believe in conscious sourcing, processing, and roasting.
Years ago I used to use cream in my coffee but now rarely if ever do I use it. Never have been a sugar in-my-coffee kind of gal. Either could break a fast so if you are practicing intermittent fasting, be sure to leave those out. Also, a good quality coffee does not need anything in it to taste good. If you find yourself always putting in cream or sugar, try to reduce and then eliminate them. It will open up your taste buds to true quality.
Energy bars are good to travel with as access to quality food items is generally limited. Often times an energy bar is what I will break my fast with. One of the cleanest and good tasting bars you can get is the Kion Clean Energy Bar. I know the amount of work and due diligence the founder of this company has put into sourcing real foods. Most companies don’t do that; it’s much cheaper and easier to use “filler” ingredients with things most of us can’t pronounce. This tasty bar contains almonds, cocoa nibs, sea salt, organic honey, and a host of other delicious ingredients. The other cool thing about this bar is that my husband really likes it. Again, I have left out the details of the quality of this bar compared to others and am just happy he likes it.
Bottom line is we have choices in what we do and what we consume. We make better decisions when we are more aware, when we are more mindful.
Cheers to that!
Enjoy your journey,
Lisa Schaffer
